I have never had so much fun at an artist panel as I did at the Ushi Con Iron Artist Panel with Doug Smith, Amelie Belcher, and E.K. Weaver. It was neither informational nor instructive, however, it was exceedingly entertaining!
The artists were given offbeat topics and then asked to use them to draw their own creative vision inspired by the theme.
Honestly I thought the concept was likely to be on the boring side with the artists sitting at a table drawing, but the Ushi Con staff videographer had a video camera set to transmit the video to an overhead projector so the audience could see what the artists were drawing as they went. The tongue in cheek comments along the way added humor and being able to see the drawings as they progressed added to the anticipation.
I enjoyed the presentation so much I had to make prints of some of my photos of the contest and get the artists, videographer, and M.C. to sign them. I didn’t realize what I was getting into when I did that but the artists really got into it and were writing thought bubbles and such enhancing the originals.
As I write this I know that my words really can’t convey how much fun this Artist Panel was, but I have to say that for a little con, Ushi Con really rocked in the artist (Doug Smith, Amelie Belcher, and E. K. Weaver) and voice artist (Micah Solusod, Pam Dougherty, and also Doug Smith!) departments! (Ushi Con 2012 February 3-5, 2012 – Be there if you can!
So without further ado, here are some pics of the panel complete with artists bubbles.
