Among other roles and hats, Chris Cason gives voice to the character Gluttony in the Full Metal Alchemist anime series. Gluttony is a homunculus, a being created through alchemy, that is perpetually hungry and personifies one of the deadly sins – gluttony. On Saturday Chris had a panel called Anime: Behind The Scenes where he discussed various aspects of the anime industry from his point of view as an actor and ADR Director (Automated Dialogue Replacement Director) as well as Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream. When Tiffany Grant (also an ADR Director and voice actress) came in and invited him to stay for her panel, he briefly debated with himself on the merits of eating lunch versus sitting in on Tiffany’s Adapting Scripts panel. His better nature won and he remained for the panel.
I hated to see the kind gentleman starve for his kindness so I set out on a ten minute journey, scouring the building for Ben and Jerry’s but to no avail. All they had was a local brand in a tiny cup and various sorts of ice cream on a stick that would have likely messed up his outfit so I settled on a really big cookie. After getting permission from con staff I made my way around to his side of the conference room. By that time I had already established my place as a bit of a fixture as a photographer so people pretty much ignored me as I made my way around and slid the cookie and a note to him saying, “Sorry, no Ben and Jerry’s in the building!”
When Tifanny discovered Chris was eating a cookie she imitated him eating it.
While humorous, I must say it was a bit unfair as he was quite dainty and sneaky (ok, maybe not dainty, but definitely sneaky!) when nibbling on it! When I was getting Mr. Cason the cookie I was just thinking to return the kindness he had done in staying for Ms. Grant’s panel. It wasn’t until later when I was going over my pics that it occurred to me that it was rather ironic for “Gluttony” to miss a meal in order to sit in on a panel with a friend. I had to smile as I thought about it. I had just given “Gluttony” a big cookie.
