World Towel Day 2011 (with contest!)

Cool Youtube Towel Day Video by Oren Mashkovski and and Eran Mendel

While I am sure that you, dear reader, are 100% towel savvy but, for those few poor souls who are ignorant I will give a little more information.

It is common knowledge and well documented in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (a tome of great import to survival in the Galaxy!) that your towel is one of your most important pieces of survival equipment.

Whether you hide under it from Arcturian Megagnats or wrap it around your head to hide from the Ravenous Bugblatter Beasts of Traal (the creature is viscious but extremely stupid so if you cover your eyes it thinks it can’t see you!) you should always know where your towel is!

Towel Day honors and memorializes Douglas Adams, the author of the aforementioned tome of wisdom, every year on May 25th.

To show how you are celebrating Towel Day (and everyone is celebrating Towel Day, aren’t they?) send me a pic of how you and your friends are celebrating Towel Day or just you and your towel. One randomly selected person (maybe two if I am feeling particularly generous!) will receive a copy of an autographed graphic novel by the Hugo Award winning Author/Artist Team Phil and Kaja Foglio (my time machine is on the fritz at the moment so I couldn’t get Douglas Adam’s autograph, but this will also serve to commemorate the Foglios winning 2 consecutive Hugo awards in 2009 and 2010 and, additionally, they will be at the World Steam Expo this very weekend!)

I will be posting the winning picture (so don’t get too carried away. Its not THAT kind of contest!) sometime after midnight Moday 5/30/2011, so Sunday night before midnight is the deadline and only pictures received before then qualify.

In the meantime, if you can, be in Dearborn, Michigan for the World Steam Expo and don’t forget to make your reservations for the Restaurant at the End of the Universe!

Happy Towel Day Everyone!
