The ArtPrize competition begins this week in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  This year over 1,800 artists have entered over 1,500 works of art in the fifth annual ArtPrize.

On Wednesday, September 19, 2013, the City of Grand Rapids will be throwing open the doors to welcome artists and visitors from all over the world to see the artworks that will be on display at the 169 ArtPrize venues.

Over the coming weeks Grand Rapids will be filled with art loving tourists coming to see and experience the artwork and to meet the various artists.  The majority of the artists will be present to represent their work at various events and at their venues.  This is an important aspect for the artists as ten of the cash prizes, totaling $360,000, will be awarded based on public vote.

An additional  six cash prizes totaling $200,000 will be awarded by jury and will be include 2D, 3D, Urban Space and Time-Based works of art.

On September 29, 2013, phase one of the voting will end and ArtPrize founder, Rick DeVos, will announce the top ten vote recipients.  While the second phase of voting continues for the top ten, you can continue to visit all the ArtPrize exhibitions until October 6, 2013 when the winners will be announced, hundreds of thousands in checks will be distributed and the artists will pack up and go home.
