In some parts of town you will find many restaurants that fit the category of “authentic Mexican.” For some, the cook simply being from Mexico qualifies the restaurant as an “authentic Mexican restaurant.” Sadly, most local, “Authentic Mexican” restaurants couldn’t win a culinary competition at a church potluck, let alone be worthy of a good restaurant in Mexico.
When you arrive, sate your thirst with a Pepsi, margarita, or daiquiri and take the edge of your hunger with the complimentary chips and salsa while your meal is being prepared. El Arriero is a moderate priced restaurant with daily specials and a great selection on its menu. Choosing is the hardest part of the experience.
For those who like a good bowl of soup, they have a loaded chicken and rice soup but get the “small” bowl unless you want to fill yourself up with chips and soup.
Every entre that passes your table will leave you wondering if you should have gotten that instead until you take your first bite.
Whether it is a burrito, enchilada, tostada, or quesadilla (with their grilled chicken for best effect!) you will forget those other tables around as you enjoy your meal.
A great meal for two, “La Parilla,” is like fajitas on steroids. On the side you have fresh veggies, fried onions and green peppers, and all the standards one might expect surrounding a sizzling hot mound of fresh cooked shrimp, beef, chicken, and chorizo to fill your hot off the grill tortillas.
