As of 11:59 p.m. on October 3, 2013, the last vote had been cast and the winner was set for ArtPrize 2013. While the die is cast the top ten contestants are waiting for the awards ceremony this evening where the final order will be released and the winners will have their final ArtPrize moment in the spotlight.
The event starts at 7:00 p.m. and goes until 10:30. The ArtPrize site indicates that “It’s more swagger and less swank at the most exciting event of ArtPrize 2013!” and “Attire is “Casual Night Out”. Leave your heels at home!”
With such diverse choices it will be interesting to see which artwork the festival goers favored most. The top ten included modern and classic statuary such as the bronze “UPlifting” by Andy Sacksteder, and the wooden “Dancing With Mother Nature” by Paul Baliker to the wire and light sculpture “Taking Flight” by Michael C. Gard, the recycled tires of Nick Jakubiak’s “Tired Pandas” and the “Earth Giant” sculpture by Benjamin Gazsi that is built mainly of chicken wire and materials that he found in the woods. Another interesting sculpture is Fraser Smith’s “Finding Beauty in Bad Things: Porcelain Vine” which is a wooden sculpture that is made to look like a quilt as opposed to Ann Loveless’ “Sleeping Bear Dune Lakeshore which is a set of quilts that is made to look like the Sleeping Bear Dunes of Northern Michigan.
Only a couple more hours of anticipation so check back later for the winners of the ArtPrize 2013 competition.
