Jon Magnificent to present the Best Science Fiction Feature award at Shriekfest

Today, October 1, 2014, it was announced that this Sunday, Jon Benton MacKinder, aka Jon Magnificent, will be presenting the Best Science Fiction Award for Shriekfest sponsor, The Weird Review.  According to LA Weekly, Shriekfest is “LA’s Most Successful & Entertaining Horror Film Festival” and it has been listed by Movie Maker Magazine in their “top 25 film festivals worth the entry fee!” and “top 13 film festivals to die for!”  Shriekfest’s founder/director, Denise Gossett, was voted number 5 out of 13 Most Influential Women In Horror History.

Jon Benton MacKinder is no stranger to award ceremonies.  As a composer and performer he has won numerous LA Music awards and received a nomination for a Grammy award.  Jon is also a big fan of Science Fiction and is well-known in the Steampunk community as Jon Magnificent.  Jon is also a Record Producer, Filmmaker, Screenwriter, and Actor.  Check out his Science Fiction short, “Would You Die for Love?” on Youtube.

Shriekfest kicks off with the opening night party on Thursday night from 8 p.m. through Midnight at Club Sinister.

Friday evening at 7 p.m. the festival begins in earnest in the historic Charlie Chaplain theater at the Raleigh Studios with a series of three feature films – “Alice D“, “Nightmare Code“, and the US premiere of “Hungerford.”

Saturday beginning at noon are the first two blocks of the Short Program, including the World Premieres of Anthony Mezza’s “Cut to Pieces“, “A Fearful Thing“, “Alone“, “Daniel”,  and “Let Me See Your Eyes.”  At 4 p.m. the Saturday night block of fear features begins with “Chrysalis“, followed by the World Premiere of “House of Purgatory” at 6 p.m., “Time Lapse” at 7:45, and the World Premiere of “Kill Game” at 10:15 p.m.

Sunday’s blocks of the Short Program begins at noon and includes World Premieres of  “Open House“, “Honey“, and “Within Hindsight.”  The evening block of features begins at 4:15 with “Bag Boy Lover Boy“, continues with “Zugzwang” at 6 p.m., and the Sunday feature block concludes with the World Premiere of “Berkshire County” at 8 p.m.  After a break to allow folks to grab a drink and chat while the staff resets the theater, the Awards Show begins at 10 p.m.

Several of the feature films are followed by Q & A sessions with the filmmakers where the audience will be able to ask questions and learn from some of the amazing producers, directors, writers, and actors involved with these films.  Check the Shriekfest schedule for more details.

Sadly, this writer won’t be able to attend this year due to health reasons but plans to attend next year.
