As I was wandering the many halls and chambers of the Grand Rapids Public Museum, music started below and I made my way to the edge of the balcony to look down at the music and saw more than a dozen dancers stepping and weaving to what sounded to my untrained ear to be an Irish jig. The segregated rows approached and retreated, the men side by side facing the ladies and then they would spin arm in arm, dos et dos, exchange partners and then return to their partner and move on to repeat the exchange with the next couple. The music was fast and fun and the ladies respendant in their gowns.
